STATE REQUIREMENTS

The information contained in below is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education, experience and examination requirements established by the New Hampshire Real Estate Appraiser Board. http://www.state.nh.us/nhreab/index.html The information can be found in the New Hampshire Statutes and Administrative Rules. Four Categories of Appraisers in New Hampshire

To Be Eligible for Licensure/Certification, a person must:

Education:

Each level must successfully complete the specified hours of approved real estate appraisal courses for each level of licensure, which includes at least 15 hours on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). The specified hours are:

Experience:

  1. There is no experience requirement for an Apprentice . Apprentice must work under the direct supervision of an appraiser who is licensed/certified in good standing.
  2. Applicants for a Licensed Residential Appraiser certificate shall show proof of at 2,000 hours of appraisal experience .
  3. Applicants for a Certified Residential Appraiser certificate show proof of at least 2,500 hours of appraisal experience obtained in no fewer than 24 months.
  4. Applicants for a Certified General Appraiser certificate shall s how proof of at least 3,000 hours of appraisal experience obtained in no fewer than 30 months. At least 50% must be non-residential.

License/Certificate Renewal:

The term of a license or certificate issued shall be 3 years from the date of issuance. The expiration date of the license or certificate shall appear on the license or certificate and notice of its expiration shall be given to its holder. Classification/licenses/certificates shall be issued for the following terms:

  1. Initial licenses and certificates issued by the board shall expire on 31 December of the third calendar year after issuance;
  2. The board shall pro-rate fees for the first year if a certificate or license is issued after July 1 of that year
  3. Renewal licenses and certificates shall be for a term of 3 years;
  4. Renewal of an apprentice classification shall be for a term of one year; and an Apprentice may renew his or her annual classification a maximum total of 3 times.

Continuing Education Requirements:

In order to renew a license, the applicant must show proof of completing 28 hours of approved continuing education programs acquired during the renewal period. These hours must include a minimum of 7 hours of Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
